Art
Vision Statement
At Tanners Wood, we believe that every child is an artist in the making. By creating a stimulating environment, full of inspiring learning opportunities, we enable children to feel confident to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas creatively. Children know that their work will be valued and are able to reflect critically on their own creations and the work of others.
We want children at Tanners Wood to be introduced to a wide range of diverse artists, reflecting our local community and the wider world. Children will feel inspired by the art that is shared with them and will be able to talk in detail about the artists that they have discovered. Opportunities to display their work around school and in local community spaces will ensure that children know that their creations are recognised and celebrated.
Art at Tanners Wood should enable children to communicate what they see, feel and think. Children are encouraged to experiment with their ideas, their use of colour, texture, form and pattern. We ensure that children have opportunities to develop in all areas of art: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, art in computing, textiles and collage. Children will leave Tanners Wood knowing that they can express themselves in a range of ways and will have been provided with the tools and experiences that enable them to do so successfully.
Art is valued at Tanners Wood because of the positive impact it has on the whole child: emotionally, intellectually, creatively and socially. Through art, we aim to create a sense of enjoyment and purpose for all. We want to provide all children, regardless of their gender, background or ability with a unique way of expressing themselves.
