Play Leader Training
Today we worked with the Year 5 children completing their play leader training. The children had a good time playing the animal game!

Last week we carried out an investigation in science. We created a fair test to see which material was the strongest.
Friday 12th July 2024
Today we were off timetable, with a focus on the Olympics. We chose the country France as this is where the Olympics are taking place. We had croissants, looked at French facts, painted the Olympic rings, Benjamin sung the French National Anthem then we had a try on some Olympic events!

We had THE best time at Mountfitchet Castle. We could see the different types of defences and it made us realise just how big a castle bailey was.

Sports Day was a great success! Thank you to all of those that were able to come and support. Cypress Class showed true sportsmanship!

We have started our new science topic about materials. The children were hooked! Today we looked at describing the different materials.

The children have tying shoelaces as their busy finger activity to show me how they can do it after practising as the half term homework!

As part of Mental Health Week we kept ourselves active and calm with a yoga workout.

We read our English work to each other and used our red pens to make improvements. We also took a sneaky look at the library room before the installations begin!

We have had a lot of indoor play today. Adharv persevered in balancing the penguins. Good job! I hope the weather cheers up for the Bank Holiday, enjoy.

We have had our marble jar treat this morning. We have made Easter baskets and decorated a hard boiled egg. I Hope they survive the journey home!

We have had a brilliant World Book Day. I was so impressed at the effort put into the children's outfits, they were AMAZING!

In English we are learning about instructions. Today we had to follow instructions to make either a paper aeroplane or a pirate hat.

We've had a fun week back after half term. On Thursday we had a visitor who helped us compile a whole school poem. We proudly worked on the first verse together then we performed it as a whole school at the end of the day.

We celebrated Safer Internet Day this week with a special assembly. We talked about it more in our PSHE lesson. I was surprised at how many children shared that they had seen something scary on the internet 'by accident'. Parental settings came up in our story and they have all promised to hound you to check the settings on their devices at home! We talked about how 'Kiddle' was a safe search engine.

We didn't have a whole school sports assembly today so Esmae, Benjamin and Darcie shared their sporting achievements with the class. We are very proud of them all.

Today one reading group performed their guided reading book to the rest of the class. They have been reading a play as their text. We all enjoyed it, especially the good voices they used for their characters!

Today we introduced the story Bog Baby in English. We were all very excited as we designed what we thought our own Bog Baby might look like.

What a fantastic first day we all had! We had a lot of 'firsts' and the children should definitely be ready for an early night!

We have really enjoyed celebrating the coronation today. As well as looking fabulous in our red, white and blue clothes we did some watercolours this morning. We had a tour of Highgrove Gardens, virtually.
We ended the day by taking home some delicious cake that Anaise brought in.

We are reading and writing about the book Whatever Wanda Wanted in English. Today we made our own kites and they took us flying off to a desert island, just like in the story! The children have brought their kites home.

We have been very busy deciding what we want to include in our class assembly. Her we are reminding ourselves of what we have learnt, before deciding what learning we want to share. We had even had a run through already and we are doing brilliantly!

We completed our chocolate egg and spoon race. The children were delighted to receive the egg and certificate to take home. Look at the concentration on their faces!

We had a fabulous time at Woodside Animal Farm. This helped us with our science learning. When we saw an animal we had to decide whether it was a mammal, bird or reptile. We had a tractor ride and also got to hold a guinea pig and stroke the goats!

The children have settled into Year 1 incredibly well.
We have learnt about nouns and adjectives in English. Here we are holding a 'noun' which we then described using an adjective.

Despite a windy and rainy picnic we had a wonderful morning celebrating the Queen's Jubilee. We went for a tour through Buckingham Palace, played pin the tail on the corgi and drew flags from the different commonwealth countries. Not forgetting that we also designed the Queen some new knickers!

Today we learnt about Safer Internet Day, with the theme 'All Fun and Games?'
We discussed that whilst the internet IS a safe place to play games and learn we also have to be safe. We should only play games that are for our age and tell an adult if we feel unsafe.

We have had a very busy day in Cypress Class today. We had our Neil Armstrong workshop. Just before home time we had a visit from our mystery reader. We really enjoyed both events and we can’t wait to see who our next mystery reader is!
