This afternoon has involved even more fun and laughter! We displayed excellent team work and impressive communication to work together to build a buggy - and even rode it down the hill! With helmets and life jackets fitted, we absolutely LOVED our canoeing session! From bumping into each other, playing a game of water polo and even capsizing (for some of us!) - our smiles were huge and our giggles could be heard around the camp.

We have had an excellent morning - made even better with the rain holding off! After filling ourselves up at the breakfast buffet, we headed into the woods for bushcraft and zip lining. Our adults are really proud of how so many of us are facing our fears; we have shown determination and resilience all morning. Our bellies are rumbling so we are off to lunch - today is burgers!

DT CED
Today, Walnut spent the entire day doing DT!
We started our morning by interviewing a real life engineer called Ben who works for Dyson. He explained all about engineering, described examples of some of his pieces of work and answered lots of our questions.
We were then set the task to think about what we would do if we were engineers. We each designed our own inventions to solve a problem within society and wrote letters to pledge our ideas to the Primary Engineers.
This afternoon, we were set some problem solving challenges. We had to make a stable tower using just spaghetti and marshmallows - the temptation to nibble on them was a lot for some of us!
Thursday 10th March 2022
Walnut class were extremely lucky today to have a visit from the Ethnic and Diversity Group at Longdean Secondary School. We took part in two workshops: one about pre-slavery Africa and one about The Civil Rights Movement. We asked lots of questions and took part in some fantastic activities!

Through class discussions, we investigated different scenarios and came to a decision on whether each example was showing respect to people online, or not. We then each designed a poster to promote how to show respect to others when online and what to do if people are not showing respect.

Wednesday 15th December 2021
Today in Year 6, we have been learning about Christingles and how Christians believe that kindness is important to allow us to spread hope. The orange represents the world (which is lonely on its own), the red tape represents the blood of Jesus and his love for everyone and the sweets and fruit represent all the good things that God gives to us throughout the four seasons. When the candle is lit, it represents Jesus being the ‘light of the world’. We all lit our candles outside and thought about our hopes for the future.

We then spent Friday afternoon summarising the main lessons of the week and created some fantastic ‘kind’ pieces of work.
Thursday 18th November 2021
As part of our science topic on microorganisms, we have been learning about how we haven’t always known about the link between microorganisms and diseases.
