Science
Vision Statement
At Tanners Wood, our vision is to ignite children’s curiosity and encourage them to confidently explore and engage with science in school and the world around them. We believe it is important to develop a deeper understanding of our universe and excite children to expand their scientific knowledge and skills, in preparation for their independence in the wider world.
Throughout all year groups, children will acquire and develop the key knowledge, as identified in the National Curriculum, through purposeful enquiry and rich, stimulating environments. Children are given opportunities to explore, question and investigate different areas of science, allowing them to become ambitious and life-long scientists. Building upon the learning and skill development of the previous years, we aim for our children to have strong foundational knowledge and scientific skills, which empowers them to be confident learners.
Our desire to motivate children to develop a life-long love of science is reflected in our curriculum, extra-curricular activities and nurturing learning environment. Teachers create a positive attitude to science learning within their classrooms, making meaningful links between classroom learning and the real world. As children progress, they are encouraged to research and conduct their own investigations, giving them the opportunities to further develop their scientific skills and prepare them for their future education.
